1906 Sunbeam Gent’s 26″ Roadster

*****************
There are still quite a lot of Sunbeams around from the ‘teen’ years, particularly 1914-1919. But you won’t find many pre-1907 Sunbeams. It’s possible to find out how many older models are still in existence. For example, I think my 1901 Sunbeam is the third oldest known.
This one needed considerable work. Its rarity made it worth the time and effort to bring it back to its former glory. So it had a year’s holiday in Gosport, where, along with several other old bones of similar vintage, it was entertained by my good friend Tony while he restored it in his spare time. It is now fully functional, with good tyres, rustproofed wheels, greased bearings, etc. The gears work well.

THE BROYLE, HALLAND
The location for these photos is Halland, at the end of The Broyle.
The Broyle links Ringmer and Halland and was turnpiked in the 1760s, at the same time that the adjoining (former) medieval deer park and common were enclosed. Just outside Halland is ‘Terrible Down,’ named after a battle, either between Alfred the Great and the Vikings; or the Battle of Lewes, where Simon de Motford defeated King Henry III’s army.
