1920 BSA Gents Model 14D All-Weather Bicycle with 26inch Frame

The de luxe ‘weatherproof’ mudguards on my 1920 BSA were an attractive option.

It has 28″ beaded edge wheels and a BSA 3-speed. It is original apart from the saddle and new tyres.

It’s not always easy to date old bicycles and check components for original specification. Many of the folks we relied on to provide such information are no longer with us.

Some of the better-known marques have books devoted to them, while period adverts are often the only way to find information on smaller companies.

Catalogues of a manufacturer’s range for a particular year represent the ideal way to check specifications. But it surprises me how difficult it is to locate such references. Luckily I did manage to find a BSA catalogue whose introduction page is dated 1st December 1920, and I’ve reproduced it in full elsewhere on this website. Comparing the photo below with the relevant model has allowed me to confirm that the saddle is not original specification.

As I build up the information on this website, I hope you can use it for similar references.
