1930′s Stadion Gents Bicycle

My friend Pat, in France, has recently been exchanging bicycles with someone from Czechoslovakia. He received this one requiring restoration and has now completed the work on it.

It’s part of our next bicycle/motorcycle exchange, and I’ll be driving over to Paris at the end of February to collect it.

I really enjoy Pat’s taste in vintage vehicles, and our exchanges have become a major part of both of our lives. Quite a few of the bikes on this website will be relocating to Paris next month.

This is a good-looking rare bike with some interesting features, and I’m looking forward to adding it to my collection.

Look at those handlebar grips. And that fabulous ornate crank.

Stadion History
This manufacturer was originally based in Germany, and this bicycle is German. I don’t know the full story of their relocation, but after WW2 the Stadion bicycle company had a Czechoslovakian factory, in Rakovnik, 56 km west of Prague. In 1957 they co-operated with Jawa to make a moped, which was called the Jawa Stadion. It continued in production until 1962. You can see a picture of one below:

I’ve now visited Patrick in Paris and swapped vanloads. Here are some pics of the Stadion on British soil.
